Movement I सिद्धान्त

Siddhānta — the sign itself

C Capricorn is the ascending builder — ambition reduced to lasting practice. It is the tenth of the twelve signs — an earth sign held in the cardinal mode, ruled by Saturn, the principle of limit and discipline — the teacher who steadies through restraint. It is a negative sign: it draws its energy in — receptive and self-contained, meeting the world by taking it in.

Its element is the ground of its nature. As an earth sign, Capricorn works on the plane of form and the dense body — action, conservation, useful result — a temper practical, patient and productive, trusting what can be handled and made to last, which under strain can run to holding so close to the tangible that it forgets the unseen. Its mode sets the tempo: the cardinal signs are quick to begin and drawn toward the world, working its nature through doing, giving Capricorn initiative, ambition and a pioneering readiness to move first, with the shadow of starting more than it finishes; restlessness for its own sake.

Fig. 1 — the four structural facts that define Capricorn: its element, its mode, its ruling planet and its polarity. Every reading of the sign flows from these.

Capricorn opens at the winter solstice — the year at its darkest, the slow climb back toward the light begun.

the three faces of Capricorn

Every sign spans thirty degrees, and the old astrologers split each into three ten-degree arcs — the decanates, or faces. Each is sub-ruled by one of the three signs of Capricorn's own element, in order — so where in Capricorn a planet sits gives it one of three subtly different tones.

the pure climber — most grave, ambitious and enduring

sharpened and made exact — the shrewd, methodical Capricorn

Movement II अभ्यास

Abhyāsa — Capricorn in each light

A sign is not one voice but a colour laid over whichever faculty it falls on. Choose a planet — or the rising sign itself — and read how Capricorn tends to express through it. The Sun gives Capricorn as the will; the Moon as the feeling nature; the rising sign as the outward manner.

Prayoga — Capricorn in your chart

Now work the way a reader truly works — backward. A life or an expression is described; decide which planet, seated in Capricorn, would cast it. Then read Capricorn straight from your own chart below.

No planet of yours falls in Capricorn — and that is common; most charts leave several signs untenanted. Capricorn still turns in your sky: it rules one of your houses and colours that field of life, and any planet transiting it lights the sign up for a season. Open a chart with a Capricorn placement to see the sign read live.

A tendency of the nature, held lightly — the sign colours a faculty, it does not fix a fate.

Sit with it

Where do you recognise Capricorn in yourself — in what you reach for, or in what you have to temper? A sign is a tendency, not a verdict; notice where it fits and where it doesn't.

The confluence समापन

Ambition reduced to practice.

Capricorn is the patient climb — discipline, responsibility, the will to build something that lasts. Read it as where you endure and achieve; keep faith with something warmer than the goal. A gravity of the earth, carried, not crushed by.

“The summit is not the reward — the mountain teaches on the way up.”

Its sidereal cousin — the rāśi that shares this zone of the sky read against the fixed stars — is Makara. Same slice of the heavens, a different zodiac laid over it.
